| Description: | Nystatin is a polyene antifungal antibiotic effective against Streptomyces noursei, Streptomyces aureus, and other Streptomyces species. It is a channel-forming ionophore that selectively targets ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane and thus, altering the membrane permeability. Nystatin is both fungistatic and fungicidal against a wide variety of yeasts and yeast-like fungi when used in in vitro experiments. |
