Mitochondrial Membrane Potential Assay Kit

The Mitochondrial Membrane Potential Assay Kit is a simple and reliable fluorescence-based method for detecting mitochondrial depolarization, a key early event in apoptosis. The assay uses the cationic dye JC-1, which accumulates in mitochondria with intact membrane potential to form red fluorescent aggregates, while in apoptotic cells with collapsed membrane potential JC-1 remains in the cytoplasm as a green fluorescent monomer. Healthy cells exhibit red and green fluorescence, whereas apoptotic cells show predominantly green fluorescence. The red aggregate and green monomer forms have excitation/emission maxima of 585/590 nm and 510/527 nm, respectively. The kit is easy to use and compatible with flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and fluorescence plate readers, allowing rapid analysis after a short incubation.

The kit ships on wet ice and storage at 2-8 °C is recommended.
