| Description: |
Chloramphenicol solution is a synthetic antibiotic, isolated from strains of Streptomyces venezuela. This is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by blocking the peptidyl transferase step and preventing attachment of aminoacyl tRNA to the ribosome. It is used as a selection agent for transformed cells containing chloramphenicol resistant genes. |
